Factors that may increase risk:
-
Age: The risk of heart disease increases with age, particularly in adults over 45 (men) and 55 (women).
-
Gender: Men tend to develop heart disease earlier, but women are more likely to die from it.
-
Demographics: Certain populations, including African Americans and Hispanics, face higher risks due to both genetic and socioeconomic factors.
As we observe National Heart Month, it’s important to focus on heart-healthy habits. Regular screenings, a balanced diet, exercise, and smoking cessation are critical to preventing heart disease. Taking action today can make a difference in protecting your heart—and your future.

February shines a spotlight on heart health, and we’re honoring Chet Beebe: Mountain Care’s biz whiz, heart transplant warrior & congenital heart disease survivor. Born with single ventricle syndrome, Chet’s journey included 7 pacemakers by age 11. His life took a hopeful turn with a heart transplant on 09/23/2001 at Utah’s Primary Children’s Hospital, just in time for his 12th birthday.

What is NEW with MCP?
If you did not know, we are a closed-door delivery-based pharmacy. This means we do not operate as your typical retail pharmacy, bringing us to no longer being able to offer in-person Rx pickups.
We must ensure smooth operations and reduce traffic concerns for our employees, fellow tenants, and the complex as a whole. Moving forward, all prescriptions will now be delivered directly to your preferred delivery address via UPS. Our team is committed to making this transition as seamless as possible for you. This will go into effect immediately. If you selected “pickup” as your preferred delivery method, for your most recent prescription fill, already you will be able to still pick up until March 3rd.
Here are some benefits of a closed-door pharmacy:
-
Focused Care: Closed-door pharmacies specialize in the needs of specific patient populations. This allows for a higher level of personalized care and attention for those who may have more complex medication needs, such as the elderly or individuals with chronic conditions.
-
Medication Management: These pharmacies often offer medication synchronization and blister packaging to ensure patients take the right medications at the right time. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals managing multiple medications.
-
Reduced Costs: By serving a specific group, closed-door pharmacies often have reduced overhead compared to retail pharmacies. This can result in lower medication costs, which can be passed on to patients, especially for long-term care or institutional settings.
-
Improved Compliance: For facilities like nursing homes, closed-door pharmacies ensure that medications are dispensed in a way that promotes adherence, such as providing medications in pre-packaged doses for each patient.
-
Faster Service: Because they are not open to the general public, closed-door pharmacies can streamline their operations and processes to quickly fill prescriptions for specific populations, which is particularly useful in urgent or high-volume settings.
-
Specialized Services: Closed-door pharmacies often provide services like compounding (creating customized medications), consulting, and specialized drug delivery methods tailored to specific patient needs.
-
Confidentiality: With a focus on particular populations and the absence of walk-in customers, a closed-door pharmacy can ensure better privacy and confidentiality for patients.
-
Medication Therapy Management (MTM): These pharmacies often provide MTM services to ensure that patients are taking the right medications in the right way, helping to avoid drug interactions and improve therapeutic outcomes.
In essence, closed-door pharmacies are well-suited to address the unique needs of patients that need more customized services including institutionalized or long-term care patients, and patients wanting home delivery.
